Installation Guides

Fitting instructions for GWM accessories, written for owners rather than technicians. Each guide covers what you need, how long it takes, the steps in order, and the mistakes worth avoiding.

Every product we sell is bolt-on or no-drill, so most items on this page can be fitted at home with basic tools. Where a job needs a professional, we say so plainly.

Before you start anything

Work on a cold, parked vehicle. Engine off, parking brake on, key out. On hybrids and EVs, let the powertrain cool completely before working anywhere near the engine bay.

Read the supplied instructions first. Ours are guidance; the manufacturer's sheet in the box takes priority, especially for torque figures.

Check the part before you fit it. Once an accessory is installed, drilled or trimmed, it cannot be returned. Test-fit first, and stop if something does not sit correctly.

Never work near high-voltage components. On hybrid and electric models, orange cables, the traction battery, the motor controller and anything with a high-voltage warning label are for authorised service centres only.

Do not improvise mounting points. If a bracket does not line up, something is wrong with the part or the fit. Email us rather than drilling.

Interior

Fitting tailored floor mats Difficulty: easy · Time: 10 minutes · Tools: none Remove the factory mats, seat the new mats onto the existing fixing clips, and check pedal clearance before driving. Mats that are not anchored can slide toward the pedals, which is a genuine safety risk.

Fitting seat covers Difficulty: moderate · Time: 45 to 90 minutes · Tools: none, or a trim tool Work one seat at a time and keep airbag routing clear. Side-airbag seats require covers with the correct tear seams, so never fit a cover not designed for your model.

Applying screen protectors Difficulty: easy · Time: 15 minutes · Tools: supplied cleaning kit Clean thoroughly, work in a dust-free space, and lay the film from one edge rather than dropping it flat.

Fitting a dash mat Difficulty: easy · Time: 10 minutes · Tools: none Check that sensors, speakers and airbag deployment areas remain uncovered.

Cargo and storage

Fitting a boot liner or cargo tray Difficulty: easy · Time: 15 minutes · Tools: none Clear the boot, fold the rear seats as needed, and seat the liner from the back forward. On hybrids, confirm that trim panels covering the battery safety switch remain accessible.

Installing a cargo barrier or drawer system Difficulty: professional recommended · Time: 2 to 4 hours These are load-bearing components anchored to structural points. Incorrect installation turns cargo into a projectile in a collision. Have them fitted professionally.

Exterior and protection

Fitting mud flaps Difficulty: easy · Time: 30 minutes · Tools: screwdriver or socket set Use the factory mounting points. If your model needs a different bracket, it comes in the kit.

Applying paint protection film Difficulty: moderate to professional · Time: varies Small pieces such as door-edge guards and loading-lip protectors are straightforward. Full panels are best left to an installer, since bubbles and edge lift are difficult to correct.

Fitting a bonnet or headlight protector Difficulty: easy to moderate · Time: 30 to 60 minutes Follow the supplied torque guidance and re-check fasteners after the first few hundred kilometres.

Roof and touring

Installing a no-drill roof platform Difficulty: moderate, two people · Time: 1 to 2 hours · Tools: socket set, torque wrench Use only the factory mounting points, tighten to the specified torque, and never exceed the vehicle's roof load rating, which is in your owner's manual. Re-check fasteners after the first trip and periodically after that.

Fitting an awning Difficulty: moderate, two people · Time: 1 hour Awnings add leverage in wind. Mount them to a rated platform, not directly to roof rails, unless the kit specifically allows it.

Off-road and recovery

Fitting rated recovery points Difficulty: professional recommended Recovery points must bolt to structural chassis mounts using rated hardware at the correct torque. A failed recovery point becomes a projectile under load. This is not the place to save money.

Installing side steps or rock sliders Difficulty: moderate to professional · Time: 1 to 3 hours Use model-specific brackets and factory mounting locations. Never drill the underbody, particularly on hybrids and EVs where harness runs and battery mountings sit beneath the floor.

Fitting underbody protection Difficulty: professional recommended Requires vehicle elevation and correct torque on structural fasteners.

Electrical

Hardwiring a dash cam Difficulty: moderate to professional · Time: 1 to 2 hours Use a fused hardwire kit on the 12-volt system only. Never splice into random wiring, and never connect to high-voltage systems on hybrids or EVs. If you are not confident identifying a suitable fuse circuit, have it fitted professionally.

Fitting auxiliary lighting Difficulty: professional recommended Requires correct fusing, relays and a legal mounting position. Lighting rules vary by country, and non-compliant installations can fail inspection.

When to use a professional

Get help from an installer or workshop for:

  • Anything load-bearing: recovery points, towing components, cargo barriers, drawer systems
  • Anything wired in: dash cams, auxiliary lighting, towing electrics
  • Anything requiring vehicle elevation: underbody protection, some step installations
  • Anything on a hybrid or EV that goes near the underbody or battery area

Go to an authorised service centre for anything involving the traction battery, high-voltage components, or a hybrid system warning light.

Professional fitment usually costs less than one mistake, and it keeps your warranty position clean.

After installation

  • Re-check all fasteners after the first drive, and again after a few hundred kilometres
  • Keep the instructions and any torque figures with your vehicle documents
  • Check load-bearing accessories before every trip
  • Wash and inspect underbody accessories after off-road use
